Mississauga Health — the Mississauga Ontario Health Team — carries a distinctive burden: it serves Canada's seventh-largest city as a single OHT, uniting hospitals, physicians, home care, mental health services, and community organizations behind one integrated model, with major family health teams like Credit Valley, CarePoint Health, and Summerville at its primary care core.

A front door for the unattached

Its flagship access initiative is refreshingly direct: Access Primary Care Mississauga, a program that helps residents without a family doctor get connected to a doctor or care team in the city. In a region as large and diverse as Mississauga — where newcomers make up a substantial share of the population and unattachment concentrates in specific neighbourhoods — a local, named, navigable attachment program matters more than a provincial phone line.

A PCN with online booking on the agenda

The Mississauga Health Primary Care Network — the organized voice of the city's family physicians within the OHT — maintains online booking as a standing item in its member resources and programming, alongside academic detailing, palliative care resources, and physician wellness. That's the pattern we now see across leading OHTs (Hamilton, Niagara, Middlesex London): online appointment booking has moved from individual clinic preference to network-level agenda item.

Integration and reconciliation

Mississauga Health also sits in the province's accelerated OHT cohort, focused first on seamless transitions for people with chronic disease across primary care, hospital, and home care. And it engages monthly with the Indigenous Primary Health Council and local Indigenous communities — including the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation — to build a health system that reflects Indigenous ways of knowing and being.
